The Samsung Galaxy Star S5282 is a new offering from Samsung aimed at the entry level smartphone market. It comes with the latest Android Jelly Bean OS, making it a good choice for people who want the latest and greatest.

It supports two SIM cards, a feature that will be very useful if you use two SIM cards—one for office and one for home. By default, the phone puts both the SIM cards on standby so it doesn’t tax the battery consumption much.

Design considerations

The Samsung Galaxy Star S5282 comes in a candy bar design. It is ergonomically designed and is quite easy to hold and operate with one hand. The screen is sensitive and you will have no issues in typing messages or dialling numbers.

Processor and memory

The phone comes with a 1 GHz processor which packs more than enough power to run basic tasks. You can multitask on the phone with ease as if comes with 512 MB of RAM. However, keep in mind that this is an entry level smartphone and so don’t expect it to run high end apps without some lag.

Screen and camera

The phone features a 2.9 inch TFT LCD touch screen. The QVGA screen displays at a resolution of 320 x 240 p. While the screen size is sufficient enough for jobs such as dialling or messaging, it is not very good for watching videos or reading. But remember that this is not the phone you should be looking for if those are your priorities.

The phone also comes with a 2 MP camera which is good enough for photos and videos. The camera comes with basic features like Scene Modes, Shooting Modes and Effects for the pictures, Timer Shots, White Balance adjustments, Metering and Image Editing.

The phone comes with a 1200 mAh battery which provides good backup. The battery provides a talk time of 14 hours and a standby time of 320 hours when used on 2G networks.

Other features

The phone is supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and basic GPRS and EDGE connections. It doesn’t support 3G SIMs. The phone comes with an internal memory of 4 GB which can be expanded to 32 GB via microSD cards.

A good entry level phone which offers good features without pinching your pocket. The only minus points are a small screen and no 3G support.
